Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose Turkey for my medical treatments?
Turkey has become one of the world's leading destinations for medical tourism, offering JCI-accredited hospitals, internationally trained surgeons, and advanced medical technology. Treatments cost 60-70% less than in the UK, US, or Western Europe without compromising on quality. At Alika Health Group, you receive comprehensive all-inclusive packages covering surgery, hospital, hotel, VIP transfers, and 12-month follow-up care.
What happens after I book my surgery?
Once you confirm your booking, your dedicated patient coordinator will contact you to schedule your surgery date and arrange travel logistics. You will receive a detailed pre-operative checklist, including medical preparation guidelines, what to pack, and required documents. We coordinate flights, airport transfers, hotel accommodation, and hospital admission so you have a stress-free experience from start to finish.
How is payment handled?
A small deposit is requested to secure your surgery date and reservations. The remaining balance is paid upon arrival in Turkey, before your procedure. We accept bank transfers, cash (in GBP, EUR, or USD), and major credit cards. All prices are fixed and all-inclusive — no hidden fees. A detailed invoice is provided for your records and any insurance reimbursement claims.
How should I prepare before travelling to Turkey?
Your patient coordinator will provide a personalised pre-operative guide. For bariatric surgeries, this typically includes a 2-4 week liquid/low-carb diet to reduce liver size, stopping certain medications (e.g. blood thinners), and avoiding smoking and alcohol. Pack comfortable loose clothing, slip-on shoes, your regular medications, and travel documents. UK, EU, US, and most other passport holders do not require a visa for stays under 90 days.
What happens when I arrive in Turkey?
A VIP driver will be waiting for you at the airport with a name sign and transfer you directly to your luxury hotel or hospital. Your patient coordinator will meet you to confirm your schedule, answer any questions, and walk you through what to expect. Pre-operative tests (blood work, ECG, imaging) are usually completed the day before surgery. You will meet your surgeon, anaesthetist, and medical team for a final consultation.
Will I receive support if I'm travelling alone?
Absolutely. Many of our international patients travel solo, and we ensure they are supported every step of the way. Your dedicated coordinator stays with you throughout your stay, accompanies you to the hospital, and is reachable 24/7 via WhatsApp. The medical team speaks English fluently, and translation support is available in multiple languages. You will never feel alone during your journey.
Can I combine my treatment with a vacation or sightseeing?
Yes — many patients choose to extend their stay to enjoy Istanbul's rich history, culture, and cuisine. However, sightseeing should only take place before surgery or after full medical clearance. We can recommend activities suitable for your recovery stage, and our concierge team can help arrange tours, restaurant reservations, or Bosphorus cruises during your free time. Always consult your surgeon before any strenuous activity.
What is the hospital experience like post-surgery?
You will stay in a private VIP room equipped with an en-suite bathroom, comfortable bed, TV, Wi-Fi, and a companion sofa. Nursing staff are available 24/7, and your surgeon visits daily to monitor recovery. Pain is managed with appropriate medication, and you will be encouraged to walk shortly after surgery to support healing. Meals are tailored to your post-operative diet plan. Most patients are discharged within 1-3 nights depending on the procedure.
What support is provided at the hotel after surgery?
After hospital discharge, you will recover in a 4 or 5-star luxury hotel with full board accommodation. Your patient coordinator checks on you daily, and a nurse can visit your room if needed. You receive a detailed post-operative diet plan, medications, and supplements. Should any concerns arise, the medical team is reachable 24/7 and can arrange a follow-up hospital visit at no extra cost.
How is aftercare and follow-up provided?
Your care continues for a full 12 months after you return home. We provide regular online consultations with your surgeon, dietitian support, progress monitoring, and answers to any questions via WhatsApp. You will receive a structured monthly check-in schedule, and any concerns are addressed promptly. This long-term follow-up is fully included in your package — no additional fees.
Do you provide dietitian or fitness support?
Yes. All bariatric patients receive personalised dietitian support, including a 12-month phased nutrition plan (liquid, puree, soft foods, regular diet). Our dietitians design meal plans based on your tastes, lifestyle, and weight loss goals. Fitness guidance is also provided — starting with light walking and gradually building toward exercise routines that maximise long-term success without risking your recovery.
